The South Wolds Academy and Sixth Form

Learning Resource Centre

The LRC is an attractive, spacious area with over 1,000 books, videos, DVDs, and other resources. It has a number of computers linked to the school network with Internet access. It also includes the 'Connexions' careers and lifestyle resources.

Students are allowed to borrow up to 6 items (10 in years 12 and 13) to take home.

The LRC is booked for use in lessons by many departments, for pupils to do research. All year 7 pupils have a fortnightly lesson in the LRC, as part of English. The twin aims of these lessons are to foster reading for enjoyment and to develop information literacy.

The LRC is open for pupils to use at break and lunchtime.

It is open before school from 8.20am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

It is open after school until 4.20pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

A reading club is run for year 7 pupils during lunchtime once a week from October through to Easter. It is usually well attended. Members have access to books 'just for them'. Most weeks there is an activity, ranging from 'Treasure Hunt' to 'Deciphering Codes' to 'Internet Fun'.
